Fondamento della fede cristiana

La fede cristiana nasce in ambiente giudaico dove esiste l’attesa di un Messia. Ma non un Messia crocifisso che la Legge dichiara maledetto da Dio. Inoltre il giudaismo aspetta una risurrezione generale alla fine dei tempi, ma mai la risurrezione di un Messia crocifisso prima della fine dei tempi. L’annuncio cristiano non può essere inventato da una mente giudaica molto creativa, e poi per giunta proclamato con l’inevitabile scandalo e rischio di essere ucciso. All’origine ci può essere soltanto un agire divino inatteso e sorprendente, e un’apparizione ai discepoli, del Crocifisso che Dio ha risuscitato.

The Christian faith emerges within a Jewish milieu characterized by the expectation of a Messiah. However, not of a crucified Messiah – such a figure, according to the Law, would be considered accursed by God. Furthermore, Judaism anticipates a general resurrection at the end of time, but never the resurrection of a crucified Messiah, and certainly not while history continues. The Christian proclamation cannot be the product of a highly creative Jewish mind, especially given the inherent scandal it represents and the very real risk of being killed for announcing it. At the origin, there can only be an unexpected and astonishing act of God, and an appearance to the disciples of the Crucified One whom God has raised from the dead.
