Paolo Siniscalco et la collection française des «Sources Chrétiennes»

Abstract

This communication is intended to be as much a personal gesture of friendship as an overview of the scientific activity expended by Paolo Siniscalco. The presentation unfolds in three movements. The first (“The relations of Paolo Siniscalco with the French Collection ‘Sources Chrétiennes’”) and the third (“Two contributions to SCh”) are specifically devoted to the subject indicated by its title: in three points for one (participation in the activities of SCh; the nÆ 500 of the Collection; Italian SCh), in two for the other (the volumes of SCh to which Paolo Siniscalco lent an essential support: Cyprian, De unitate; Tertullian, De resurrectione). The second movement (“Some works of Paolo Siniscalco on the first Christian Latin literature”) prepares the third by considering Paolo Siniscalco’s various papers about Tertullian and giving on this ground an analysis of his method and the major trends in his research. By this balance between approaching a personality from a major angle and a glance at a part of his writings, we hope to show what is the living legacy of one of the most outstanding patrologists in the last two generations.
